October 27 New England Mobilization to End the War in Iraq. Rally at 12:00 Noon Boston Common Followed by a March at 2:00 PM On Saturday, October 27, people in all walks of life will gather in ten sites around the country for massive regional demonstrations to end the war in Iraq and bring all the troops home now. Our tax dollars must be spent on taking care of our communities, not on war. This nationally coordinated day of outcry is initiated by United for Peace and Justice (UFPJ), the nation’s largest grassroots antiwar coalition. One hundred New England activists met in Worcester in July and voted to bring tens of thousands of people to Boston for a huge regional demonstration. Eight committees have formed to implement the plans. Our goal is to reach as many as possible of the 70% of the American people who oppose the war, yet are not actively doing something about it. The further goal is to build an ongoing New England network of peace and justice activists who will work together on a growing number of projects. The creation of a dynamic regional network will be a breakthrough for peace work in our area of the country. http://www.newenglandunited.org/ SPEAKERS: Howard Zinn (historian) Felix Arroyo (Member, Boston City Council) Gabriel Camacho (Proyecto Voz, American Friends Service Committee) Gold Star Families for Peace (speaker/s to be announced) Shep Gurwitz (Veterans for Peace) Liam Madden (Iraq Veterans Against the War) Military Families Speak Out (several members will speak) Merrie Najimy (American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee) Rostam Pourzal (Iranian-American specialist on human rights) Dahlia Wasfi (Iraqi-American MD) |
