Saturday January 7th Iran From the Inside: An Imaginary Axis of Evil A presentation and slide show by Anne Miller, director of New Hampshire Peace Action 7:00 - 8:30 pm Doors open at 6:30 UU Church of Rutland 117 West Street, Rutland Anne Miller, director of New Hampshire Peace Action, returned from a ten-day women’s “Building Friendships” delegation to Iran at the end of April. The human rights organization Global Exchange and the women’s peace group Code Pink organized the trip as an opportunity for cultural sharing, relationship building, and information exchange between Americans and Iranians. The trips was also motivated by the growing concern that the US may either take or sanctionmilitary action against suspected nuclear facilities in Iran within the next year. While in Iran, the delegation met with a number of diverse NGOs (non-governmental organizations) and with many ordinary Iranians in the cities of Tehran, Yazdz and Esfahan. The group was interested in talking with Iranians about what they think of America, their own government, and possibilities for internal reform, as well as the talk ofpossible US or Iranian military strikes on suspected Iranian nuclear facilities. In addition to a cultural discussion of Iran, Anne will address the current international tensions around Iran’s nuclear program and the role that the US and US citizens can play to increase the safety and security of both the US and countries in the Middle East. |
