From Cindy Haviland:
Saturday, September 24th, was the most memorable event of my life! No longer did I feel like I was the only person in the world who was floating in the middle of the ocean, clinging to a single piece of wood! I finally got the Iraq war stories right from the horses mouth. People of all ages were protesting, young, old, veterans and the disabled. When we were in front of the White House, I noticed a women holding a picture above her head. I asked, "Excuse me. Is that a picture of a loved one?" She said, "Yes. He's my husband and he wants to come home." On the other side of me was an old woman who was pushing another old woman in a wheelchair. People even brought their children and pets with signs which read, "Paws for peace." And, "Dogs love Cindy." I spoke with a black woman who said her daughter was already in Iraq two times before and they wanted to send her again. She said she told them she had a bad back and had it operated on once already. The backpack the second time around had damaged her back again. I asked the woman if it was true the soldiers were getting "nickel and dimed" to death. She said, "Yes," and her daughter constantly kept writing her mother to send feminine personal products too! The woman added the soldiers DO want to come home. The soldiers can't say anything bad because of retaliation. When the soldiers do have a chance to jump in front of the camera they do because they want to show their families they are alright. The blight of "Red Journalism" (soviet style reporting) is censored, tweaked, and made up is making United States media sources NON-CREDIBLE! How can anyone trust US media sources when there are no roving reporters and sources that are not cited? All those people at the protest had a story to tell! Our journalists and mass media completely missed it but I guess that's what people get in a non-democratic society! |
